Summer is here, and so is 2010!
Welcome to the summer edition of the Insights and Outlooks. The new year is now upon us and we have plenty of exciting news for 2010.
After a period of consolidation, SARC is now extending its horizons to offer more value to referring vets and your clients. Existing services have come of age, and new services are commencing, giving you more options and flexibility for referral. Here’s just a little bit of what is happening at SARC..
Emergency celebrates 2 years of true 24 hour service
True 24 hour emergency and aftercare adds value to both in-house referral services and to referring vet clinics who may wish to have some patients remain at SARC during the day. Referring vets have the peace of mind that SARC is staffed 24 hours by both vets and nurses, meaning that cases can be referred at any time, and if owners call, they can receive a veterinary update at any time.
Physiotherapy back in full force
Dogs in Motion, who run the physiotherapy service at SARC, are now back to full staffing after a short absence from Michelle Monk following the arrival of her second child. Dogs in Motion is expanding its physiotherapy and rehabilitation service at SARC with Physiotherapist Sharmin Lee now joining the team. Sharmin completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at LaTrobe University in 2004 and has worked in a variety of acute care, inpatient and home-based rehabilitation settings in Melbourne’s public health sector. During this time, Sharmin gained considerable experience and developed a particular interest in the rehabilitation of patients with various orthopaedic and neurological conditions. She now transfers her experience to the physiotherapy management of small animal patients. Her special interest is in the rehabilitation of dogs with neurological conditions and injuries.
Dogs in Motion have also expanded their services to include custom made orthotic and prosthetic mobility solutions for all animals to help improve their quality of life.
We are proud to be associated with Dogs in Motion who provide Melbourne’s most experienced small animal physiotherapy, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy services.
Cardiology - learning heart to heart
The Cardiology service will soon be holding regular evening seminars. Referring vets will be invited to join Richard Woolley in an informal and friendly setting to go over any current or recent cases you might have seen in your practice. Radiographs, ECGs and echocardiography images can be brought along to be discussed. Richard will be happy to provide example cases in addition to cases you bring along.
Surgery is back!
We are very happy to announce that a referral surgery service run by Dr. Melati Laksito will commence at SARC from early March 2010. Melati has completed her surgical residency and will soon apply to sit her fellowship exams with the College. Many referring vets have asked for the return of an integrated surgical service to provide patients the option of referral surgery without the need to transport patients. Very soon this option will be again be available.
A new service?
There is news in the pipeline of a new major service at SARC. Watch this space for further news very soon.
