SARC Welcomes Cardiologist Dr Richard Woolley

We are very happy to welcome Dr Richard Woolley, residency trained cardiologist and pulmonologist, to the Southern Animal Referral Centre team. Richard has moved permanently to Melbourne and will be dedicating all of his clinical efforts to the Southern Animal Referral Centre.
Richard graduated from the Royal Veterinary College London in 2002 and also passed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination in the same year. After graduation he completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Edinburgh. Following this he remained at Edinburgh University completing a three year cardiopulmonary residency including one year working in the small animal internal medicine department, passing the first part of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals diploma in 2006. Richard remained at the University of Edinburgh after completing his residency where he was employed as a veterinary cardiologist. He has also completed externships in the veterinary cardiology departments at Cornell and Florida Universities. Richard special interests and areas of publication include advanced echocardiography, pimobendan in mitral valve disease, aortic stenosis and pacemaker implantation.
Richard is on track to take his specialty board examinations this year. He will be consulting from the Southern Animal Referral Centre starting immediately.

As Richard has only just landed in Australia he will be balancing work queries as he settles into a normal routine. In these situations Richard will be happy to return your calls as soon as he is able. Appointments for cardiac or pulmonary cases can be made on a referral basis with Richard by contacting the Centre on (03) 9532 5261. Indications include murmurs, arrhythmias, heart failure, congenital heart defects, coughing, nasal discharge, sneezing, etc.
