US trained Dr Charles Kuntz offers a full range of soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures from his consulting and surgical suites at the Southern Animal Referral Centre.
Charles has had a distinguished surgical career with many achievements and accolades. He was the only small animal orthopaedic surgeon at Colorado State University for his entire time on faculty. Additionally, he has completed an internship at the Animal Medical Centre in New York and a surgical residency at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
Expert in numerous aspects of surgery, Charles has a particular focus on surgical oncology, which is evidenced by his completion of a one-year Fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery and an 18-month fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Colorado State University.
Charles has been awarded a Master of Science degree from Virginia Tech for his research into cardiopulmonary bypass in dogs where he collaborated with Dr. C. Walton Lillihei, the first surgeon to successfully perform open heart surgery in people (1954).
He has had the honour of receiving the prestigious "Most Outstanding Publication in Veterinary Surgery" award for his Masters research in cardiopulmonary bypass.
His academic achievements have been paralleled by practical experience, having owned a surgical practice in the greater Washington, DC area (1998-2004) and having acted as Program Chair and Member of Board of Directors for the Washington, DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine.
