12 Days of Emergency Christmas - Eleven Trauma Patients
23 December 2011
Trauma of one type or another is more common than you may think over the holiday period. Trauma may be caused by interactions with motor vehicles if your pets are unrestrained or not confined in the yard, and it may also be caused by simple bumps around the house.
Over the holiday period, please ensure that your pets are properly restrained if you are out in the park or just out for a quick walk. At home, don’t let the dog take part in the backyard cricket match (we have at least one or two hit-by-bat cases every year at this time!) and ensure that your pets are not underfoot at social gatherings.
If your pet is injured, please seek veterinary advice or attention immediately. We are open 24 hours over the holiday period and can be contacted on 03 9532 5261.

On the eleventh day of Christmas in pet emergency, we saw:
Eleven trauma patients
Ten parvo puppies
Nine coughing cavvies
Eight diabetics
Seven foreign bodies
Six inoculations
Five HGEs
Four stitch ups
Three lost dogs
Two heat strokes
And a chocolate toxicity
